A racket that prompts a question
The Cork segment begins with Minter Dial observing that the racket’s appearance attracts curiosity on court. In the July 15 interview, Pedro Plantier revisits the experiments preceding that identity. It is an object’s story told by one of the people who built it.
Cork creates an immediately visible difference. The subject becomes more interesting when we look behind the surface: the prototypes, partners and production decisions.

From around 16 minutes, Plantier describes his partnership with Nicolau, whose experience included repairing rackets. He recalls testing a prototype on court and helping gather player feedback. Other skills subsequently joined the project, including law and marketing.
The brand emerges as a collective undertaking. Making the object, protecting its identity and designing its image are separate tasks. A recognisable product also depends on people absent from the advertising posters.
Material, shape and customisation
Between 22 and 25 minutes, Plantier shows different constructions and explains where cork sits within the rackets. The conversation also covers feel, ranges and customisation. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions; MPI does not present them as a performance comparison.
The editorial interest lies elsewhere: a material associated with Portugal becomes a recognisable sign on court. Provenance and workshop practice provide a story consistent with the product’s appearance, rather than an interchangeable identity.
A brand told through details
The bag segment, around 25:53, continues that approach. The conversation moves towards finishes and the people making them. The product is explained through work and encounters, rather than simply named.
For MPI, the interview is valuable for making manufacturing visible. Comfort and sustainability claims belong to Cork’s own account; the material identity and project’s development provide a worthwhile subject to explore.
