The career continues after the match

The August 18 Business of Sport interview presents a player organising several activities around his sport. Speaking to Charlie Stebbings, Nikhil Mohindra discusses sponsors, club projects and content creation. The story’s interest lies in how those activities support one another, then sometimes compete.

From 11:33, he explains the time consumed by commercial work. Visibility creates opportunities, but days devoted to these projects are also days taken away from training. He describes a personal situation, rather than a formula for every player.

Ronaldo and John Terry, through a relationship

Around 36 minutes, Mohindra recalls meeting John Terry, then spending a week playing with Cristiano Ronaldo in Dubai. The relationship is the engaging part: learning, listening and sharing a game with someone whose expertise is padel.

These names offer a way in for football audiences. An editorial account then needs to retain the situations and exchanges, rather than reduce the subject to a celebrity list. Padel provides the setting for an encounter.

Turning conversation into content

At 43:20, Mohindra recalls hesitating before asking his contacts to appear on his channel. He describes a format combining conversations about their careers with a padel match. The initial challenge is not simply technical: he needs to make the proposal and earn his guests’ trust.

This illuminates the value of his creative work. Access alone does not make a show. A relationship needs to become a conversation viewers can follow, with a reason to watch beyond the name on the thumbnail.

Time remains the constraint

At 51:22, the conversation puts those activities back into perspective. Mohindra describes training mornings, meetings and travel, alongside the difficulty of protecting his personal life. Content brings exposure, but producing it uses the same limited resource as sport: time.

That tension gives the portrait depth. The interview shows the work behind a media presence and its demands. For MPI, it provides a concrete account of the relationship between a sporting career, image and the padel economy.
